Bukalapak Enhances Platform Security and Intellectual Property Protection
JAKARTA, Indonesia, August 30, 2024 — Bukalapak, one of Indonesia’s leading e-commerce platforms, has made significant strides in improving the comfort and security of its platform, particularly in combating counterfeit products and strengthening its intellectual property (IP) protection measures.
In 2024, Bukalapak actively participated in key industry events, including the annual IACC meeting in Orlando, USA, and the annual INTA conference in Atlanta, USA. These engagements allowed the company to showcase its progress and future projects, garnering positive feedback and support from major stakeholders. At the IACC annual meeting, Bukalapak met with industry leaders to discuss its ongoing efforts and upcoming strategies. These leaders praised the significant improvements and expressed their support for Bukalapak in the upcoming USTR report.
During roundtable discussions, Stefio Kurniadi, Bukalapak’s Vice President of Trust and Security, presented data on the progress of removal actions and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), which received positive reactions from participants. This indicates that concerns about Bukalapak are lower than in previous years.
In the US, Bukalapak also met with various stakeholders on related topics. Discussions revealed a downward trend in removal activities year over year, although further improvements are needed. Following its IPO, Bukalapak is focusing on enhancing platform integrity and supporting brands, including through strict Know Your Customer (KYC) checks for sellers and projects to automate proactive control measures. To address data protection challenges and law enforcement application, Bukalapak plans to collaborate with the DGIP (Intellectual Property Protection Regulatory Body) and other Indonesian authorities to discuss data sharing and online-to-offline initiatives.
To bolster security, Bukalapak is collaborating with various brand owners and regulators, including the National Narcotics Agency, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Communication and Information, the Indonesian National Police, and other relevant institutions.
Bukalapak has also launched a dedicated reporting portal called BukaBantuan, allowing rights holders to report cases of IP infringement on the Bukalapak platform. The resolution time for these reports is 24 hours.
Overall, Bukalapak’s efforts to enhance platform security and IP protection are commendable, positioning the company as a responsible player in the e-commerce industry.
