Carolinas AGC Responds to Nationwide Group of workers Dearth with Complete Instructional Projects

The construction industry is facing a significant challenge in workforce development, as highlighted by a recent survey conducted by AGC of America. The survey revealed critical gaps in construction training and education, prompting organizations like Carolinas AGC (CAGC) and the CAGC Foundation to take action in addressing these issues in the Carolinas and beyond.

Recognizing the urgent need to address the workforce deficit, CAGC has launched innovative educational initiatives aimed at cultivating a new generation of construction professionals. One such program is the Construction Bootcamp, set to commence on September 9th at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC). This program provides comprehensive, hands-on training to prepare participants for immediate entry into the construction workforce.

“Our efforts are a direct response to the troubling findings of the National AGC survey,” stated Edison Cassels of Edison Foard, who serves as CAGC Foundation Board Chair. “We are committed to bridging the skills gap in the short term and implementing sustainable solutions for the future of our industry.”

In addition to the Construction Bootcamp, CAGC is actively involved in the “Be Pro Be Proud” program, engaging students from middle school through high school in both North Carolina and South Carolina. This initiative serves as a platform to introduce young people to the various career paths in construction and highlight the industry’s value and opportunities.

Furthermore, CAGC is reaching out to even younger students by developing and distributing construction-themed lesson plans for K-5 educators. Coupled with the Lane the Loader ™ program, which provides construction-themed books to libraries, classrooms, and hospitals, these initiatives aim to spark an interest in construction from an early age.
