The 23rd “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Kicks Off in Fujian

BEIJING, Aug. 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The global finals of the 23rd “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students began with a grand opening ceremony in Nanping, Fujian. Guided by the Ministry of Education and the Fujian Provincial Government, the event is organized by the Ministry of Education’s Center for Language Education and Cooperation and co-hosted by various local partners.

This year’s competition boasts 147 contestants from 130 countries and regions, all gathered to showcase their knowledge and skills in Chinese language and culture. The competition kicked off with a written test that covers various aspects of China, including its national conditions, geography, history, economy, and culture.

Yang Bingxuan, representing Thailand, expressed his excitement about the competition, stating, “Thanks to Chinese, I’ve made friends from all over the world, and now we’re gathered here in Fujian. People say Fujian is a blessed place, and being here, we’ve truly felt that blessing—enjoying great food, wonderful sights. I can’t wait to share this happiness with my friends in Thailand.”

Rod, a contestant from Cuba, shared his deep impression of Fujian and his aspirations to promote Chinese culture in his country. He emphasized the importance of being a bridge between Cuba and China, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.

The global finals of the competition will span 21 days, featuring challenges such as the Bridge Crossing, Advancement, and Grand Final rounds. The ultimate showdown will take place in early September in Pingtan, where the global champion, continental champions, and other awards will be decided.

Yang Guohe, Vice Chairman of Fujian Media Group, highlighted the competition’s theme of “One World” and the concept of “Blessings for All.” He emphasized the cultural enrichment and developmental opportunities the competition provides, allowing participants to delve into the depths of Chinese culture and witness its rapid growth.
