The Associated General Contractors of California (AGC of California) recently hosted the annual Southern California Small Business Construction Expo (SBCX) on Friday, Aug. 23, at the Long Beach Conference Center in Long Beach, California. The event featured Tim Lindholm, the Deputy Chief Program Control Officer with Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, as the keynote speaker.
Lindholm emphasized the importance of inclusivity and diversity in infrastructure development, highlighting the vital role that small and diverse businesses play in connecting communities and creating opportunities for growth. With over 20 years of experience in managing transportation infrastructure projects in Los Angeles County, Lindholm leads a team dedicated to executing a $30 billion capital program focused on Metro’s rail, bus, freeway, and active transportation initiatives.
AGC of California’s SBCX event aims to facilitate connections between small/underrepresented trade (SUB) contractors and key industry stakeholders. The expo provides a platform for over 45 organizations to share insights on landing opportunities, project forecasts, and more. Supported by BuildOUT California and Los Angeles Metro, the event drew over 480 attendees from various sectors.
SBCX focuses on fostering connections between disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE), disabled veteran business enterprises (DVBE), LGBT business enterprises (LGBTBE), minority business enterprises (MBE), small business enterprises (SBE), women-owned business enterprises (WBE), and women-owned small businesses (WOSB) in the construction industry.
AGC of California’s CEO, Peter Tateishi, highlighted the expo as a launchpad for the future of California’s construction industry, where small contractors can transform into industry leaders through connections made at the event. The expo was supported by AGC of California members, including Hensel Phelps, Skanska, Flatiron, and other industry leaders.
Since 1920, AGC of California has been advocating for contractors and providing education, career development, and networking opportunities for professionals in the construction and contracting field. The organization works to connect members with industry leaders through services, innovative technologies, and events.
