Globe Telecom Maintains “AA” MSCI ESG Ranking for Second Consecutive Year
MANILA, Philippines, Sept. 3, 2024 — Globe, the Philippines’ well-known telecommunications and virtual answers platform, has once again secured its MSCI ESG Ranking of “AA” for the second consecutive year, solidifying its position as a leader in Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) within the telecom industry.
MSCI ESG Analysis provides ratings on global public and private companies based on their exposure to industry-specific ESG risks and their ability to manage these risks effectively. Globe’s consistent “AA” rating reflects its proactive approach to risk management and its commitment to sustainable business practices.
One of Globe’s key focuses is decarbonization. As the first Philippine company with science-based net zero goals approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Globe has made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint. In 2023, the company achieved an 18% reduction in emissions through various green initiatives, such as energy management systems, increased use of renewable energy, and operational changes. To ensure transparency, Globe’s emissions data in 2023 underwent third-party verification.
In addition to decarbonization, Globe places a strong emphasis on building digital trust. The company has implemented robust cybersecurity measures, including Threat Based Vulnerability Management (TBVM) and regular audits. Globe’s substantial investment in cybersecurity, totaling approximately US$101.2 million since 2015, underscores its commitment to protecting customer data and ensuring the security of its digital infrastructure.
Furthermore, Globe’s dedication to its employees is evident in its comprehensive benefits package, which exceeds government requirements. The company also innovates in employee programs, such as the myChoice FlexBen Program and the Longevity Award Program. Globe’s recent G-Evolution Program incentivizes employees to adopt electric vehicles, showcasing its commitment to sustainability. Globe was recently recognized for the fourth consecutive year as one of HR Asia’s Best Companies to Work For in Asia, The Philippines Chapter (2024).
Globe’s Board Risk Oversight and Sustainability Committee (BROSC) oversees the company’s sustainability policies and strategies to address sustainability-related risks and opportunities. The company also offers ESG-related incentives for executives and employees, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence throughout the organization.
“Our ESG rating reflects the collective effort of our entire organization in integrating sustainability principles into our business operations. We are committed to driving positive change within our company, the communities we serve, and the nation as a whole,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.
Globe’s consistent “AA” rating is a testament to its rigorous approach to compliance and governance. This recognition underscores the company’s commitment to ethical business practices and responsible corporate citizenship.
In the face of long-term ESG-related risks, Globe continues to demonstrate resilience by innovating and adapting to the evolving landscape of digital solutions. Its commitment to sustainable business practices sets a benchmark for the industry and creates long-term value for all stakeholders.
