QinetiQ US Partners with General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems for U.S. Military Aircraft Carrier Project
MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 5, 2024 — QinetiQ US has announced a partnership with General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) in San Diego, California to supply control hardware and equipment for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) to be installed on the U.S. Navy’s next Ford-class aircraft carrier, the Doris Miller (CVN 81).
This agreement signifies a long-term manufacturing venture to upgrade, procure, develop, and test control hardware and arresting control equipment. QinetiQ has been supporting GA-EMS and the U.S. Navy for over a decade by providing hardware and equipment for the EMALS Initiation Control Subsystem and control hardware and equipment for the AAG system. These systems have been developed for and installed on the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) and the Ford-class carriers John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) and Enterprise (CVN 80).

The construction and manufacturing of the hardware and equipment will take place at QinetiQ’s facility in Franklin, Massachusetts.
